We’re finally here! After 22 hours of traveling, Jesse and I finally landed in Hilo, Hawaii. Of course, I didn’t do anything past taking a shower and going to bed yesterday. Today we got a feel for the island by driving from Hilo to Kona.
I knew there were volcanoes, but I did not expect the awesome landscape that was near Mauna Kea. The mountain itself was beautiful - and added to the interesting scenery. There were black, volcanic rocks covering a lot of the area, but plants had figured out how to grow up through them. Definitely not what I expected, but definitely right up my alley.
In Kona, we found a local market with so much neat stuff and more fresh fruit than I’ve ever seen in one place. We didn’t spend a lot of time in Kona today, but I know we’ll be heading back. After Kona we went back to our hotel in Hilo and went for a nearby walk along the water and through some Japanese themed gardens. I met a cat and had a photoshoot with it.
To finish the day, we sat on our 5th floor balcony and watched the birds playing, since we were looking down on the top of the trees. I saw the cutest little green bird and got a really nice shot of him.
These are awesome, I love the weird looking trees, and how the flowers pop up up of the gray. The cat however, does not look Hawaiian.
