Today we went on a helicopter tour with Blue Hawaiian. It took us over Kilauea and some active lava flows - some were still red. We also saw the top of the volcano and could see a little magma. I was seated in front, next to the pilot, and got the best views. To make things even better, the pilot knew the difference between lava and magma - a delightful characteristic.
Taking photos through the glass was not ideal, especially since we passed through some clouds - but I got a few good shots. You can see the steamy cone with a peeking bit of magma inside, then a stream of silvery, fresh lava with a tip that is still red hot.
After our tour, we stopped for a late lunch at a restaurant on the water and then went on a short walk until it starting pouring on us. We saw a nice rainbow over the bay before the skies really opened up and we had to scramble back to the car.
These are spectacular! I feel like I'm there with you! Thanks for documenting as you go!
