Barred Island Preserve - Deer Isle, ME, USA

SONY DSC

Since Heather is home for the long weekend - she tagged along to Barred Island preserve in Deer Isle with me and my mom. Holy smokes, the foliage is now fantastic. I didn’t get too many pictures of it, but they wouldn’t have done it any justice anyway. I love fall road trips!

The hike from the parking area at the preserve to the island is about a mile, and is pretty tough when you get to some narrow spots in the trail, but the outcome is worth it! At low tide, you can cross a short sand bar to Barred Island. There weren’t any trails on the island that I could find, but you can walk along the rocky beach and take in the islands that dot the horizon.

There were plenty of cute mushrooms to shoot along the trail, and so many adorable chipmunks!
