Cutler Coast Public Reserved Lands - Cutler, ME, USA

About halfway through this 6 mile hike, I thought we had another fiasco like Bigelow on our hands. I checked my phone’s time after a couple miles and we’d already been out for two hours, but hadn’t reached the intersection of the Coastal Trail and Inland Trail. It was only supposed to be two miles to that point, and it doesn’t take me two hours to walk two miles. After deciding we must have taken a wrong turn, it seemed like we walked in slow motion before winding up where I’d planned. At this point it was 4:30 and we had two more miles to go if the signs were accurate. Jesse was a little stressed about getting back before dark.

When we got back to my car, the clock said 4:30 again. Both my phone and Jesse’s thought we were in Nova Scotia the entire time and thought it would be nice to go ahead and switch to Atlantic Time. I laughed pretty damn hard at that realization.

Aside from that - this little park is awesome. It doesn’t even seem like Maine… even though I’m not sure what else it would be. Alaska or Canada maybe. The drive up was fantastic too, the leaves are changing and, once you get past Ellsworth, there’s nobody else on the road to ruin the trip.

  1. Samantha, these are spectacular. I love the picture of the pinecone, and the mushroom that looks like a person. You really should provide these for a "Discover Maine" publication . . . .
