Prince Edward Island, Canada

Let me just say that two days is hardly enough time to explore Prince Edward Island. That aside, I spent most of my time driving, seeing the sights, and taking pictures on the side of the road. That’s how to speed-travel. Yes, that’s a term I think I made up.

We made base in Charlottetown, but only stayed there for the 7 hours we slept. Saturday we drove up to the Greenwich section of PEI National Park to see the dunes. We made friends with cute little meadow voles and beautiful blackbirds. Creatures that were too damn fast for me to get a nice photo of. Past Greenwich, we drove northeast through Monticello to East Point Lighthouse and got ice cream. Canadian ice cream beats American ice cream.

Sunday, we went the opposite way. We drove west through Summerside up the North Cape Coastal Route. We didn’t make it all the way to the northern tip, since we had to get home… We found a neat little town called Alaska. When I say town, I mean a farm and one stray dog. The dog became our best friend and I unofficially decided her name was Daisy. I hope she’s okay booping around Alaska by herself. More regrets - I didn’t take her picture. She was a little, shaggy black dog with a graying muzzle. She was almost swallowed up by the black eyed Susans she liked to sit in because she was so small.

Past Alaska we went to West Point, saw a lighthouse, walked along the boardwalk, and kept driving. We turned around at a farm overlooking the ocean that I wish I lived at. I didn’t really want to make the 7 hour drive back to Maine, but I can’t go on these adventures if I lose my job. I guess that’s optimism?

Beech Cliffs - Acadia National Park, ME, USA

Before I carry on with this post, I need to confess that I snuck a picture of one of my dogs, Abbie, and a couple of my chickens in here. Those were taken at home, not at Acadia. I don’t know how I would even get my chickens to Acadia, let alone how I would get them to go hiking.

Jesse and I hit the west side of the park again. We found Beech Cliffs, which was a relatively easy, but delightful walk. It overlooked Somes Sound and Echo Lake and its sandy beach. Blueberries were starting to ripen, and I definitely ate a few. I’m not a huge fan of blueberries, unless I’ve just plucked them from the bush. They’re extra tasty when you’ve gone through all that hard work to get to them.

On the way back, I pulled over in downtown Somesville, since there was an absolutely gorgeous view of Somes Pond and one of Acadia’s mountains. I’m not sure which one it was, though. Maybe Western or Bernard Mountain? I don’t know. I get pretty depressed when it’s Sunday evening and I know I don’t get to go adventuring again until Saturday…
