Sears Island - Searsport, ME, USA

I went on a nice, 8 1/2 mile hike on Sears Island today after I got back from Providence. (I took three pictures in the city between arriving and heading into Lupo’s to see Streetlight Manifesto. It’s not worth a whole post. Streetlight is pretty much the best thing ever, though!)

Sears Island is blocked off by an apocalyptic little gate, so you can’t drive all the way to the end. The road stops about 2 miles away from the end, but you can continue on foot and there’s several hiking trails. I took one that was an old dirt road and lead to a radio tower. The tower was nothing special, so I wandered along another trail to a rocky beach. I thought maybe I could walk along the coast to get back to my car, but the tide was too high. I had to backtrack 4 miles to get back to my car. I’m okay with it though. It was a good walk.

There’s still more trails to explore, so I’ll have to head back soon.
